Fayetteville Kids Tri

Well the kids participated in the 1st of 3 Triathlons they will do this summer...we traveled all the way to Fayetteville, caught a Naturals game and got ready for the BIG day.  The kids and I have sort of been training for the Tris...they participated in swim camp this summer, and are doing AWESOME in the swim these days, we've been riding bikes pretty faithfully, and Daddy makes us (all of us) run... sometimes short, sometimes long, but always fast! :)  I can now say I am officially old...everyone in my family can beat me sprinting...sigh :)

This particular Tri had different ages do different distances in each event.  7-8 year olds had to swim 50 yards, bike 1 mile, and run 1/2 mile.  9-10 year olds had to swim 100 yards, bike 2 miles, and run 1/2 mile...Laynie's thoughts were that these people seriously did NOT give 7 year old boys enough credit...she thinks Jones should have to do exactly what she does...he could have to with maybe the exception of the swim.  We coached Laynie to go slow & steady in the swim, and that's just what she did.  It took her a little less than 3 minutes to finish & that was great!  After the Tri I swam for 3 minutes & I thought I was going to DIE...do you hear me, DIE...swimming is HARD WORK!

Well we do Tris so the kids can win awards stay active & healthy...seriously we do workout for their health, but who doesn't want to do their best at the competition?  Well that's just what they did, their BEST.  Laynie WON her age group & Jones got 2nd in his!  We were proud of them! :)
Before the swimming...swim caps were new for us this time...makes them look like professionals!
Getting ready for group photo...Jones is in the plaid suit & Laynie is in the left kind of hidden.
1st 9 year old female to finish...Whoo Hooo!
Having some free ice cream after finishing up...he could have raced more...that boy doesn't get tired.
One super excited little gril--Go Laynie!
Proud of Jones for being 2nd--he did GREAT! The boy that beat him is basically a Triathlon machine...his time beat the 8 & 9 year olds as well...Cooper is one tough cookie.
One happy Triathlon family!  I'm just glad it's them competing & NOT me!

Kids Can Tri!

Let me start by saying...this is a long post...and as you will see, we are so proud of our kids & the effort they put out over the summer getting ready for their BIG DAY at the Conway Kids Triathlon!!!  Last year was Laynie's first time to participate and this year the little brother got to join in on the fun (well training might not be so much fun at our house except on the days you get to ride bikes & swim with your buddies, but race day was exciting)!  This post will just take you through the course of their race day experiences~if you have a kids triathlon near you I encourage you to encourage your kids to enter.  It's an awesome way to get your kids motivated & excited about exercising. Way to go guys we are proud of you!

Jones getting ready to set up for race day.
Getting marked with our numbers for the day.
Numbers 179 & 180 (our markings stayed on for a few days)
Last minute instructions from Daddy.
Quick pic with our training buddies.
Jones getting ready for the 50 yard swim, this was definitely the most difficult leg of the race for him, but he did it!
Swim & transition are over, now it's time to bike two miles!
 Just a 1/2 mile run & he'll be done!
This is one of my favorite pictures~he's so close to the finish line, but he's not giving up yet.  That's a look of pure determination!
And he's done in 19:15.2 minutes~not sure I could go that fast! :)
SOOOO Happy to be finished!
Laynie's swim of 50 yards~she did awesome~2nd one out of the pool in her heat!
Ready for her 2 mile bike...much faster this year!
And she's off on her 1/2 mile run.
The finish line is in her sight.
Congratulations from her Daddy~Way to Go Laynie~she finished in 18:46.2 (5 minutes faster than last year)!!

Good job guys!
AND their hard work paid off~Jones was 2nd place in his age group.

And Laynie was 4th place in her division.

Now we are gearing up for another Kids Tri at the end of August!

TEXAS!!!

We took a quick trip to TEXAS at the beginning of July & had such a great family time together!!!  We began our vacation by visiting some family, splashing around Hawaiian Falls and meeting Mario at the Magic Time Machine.  It's about time we got to TX for a visit, huh guys?  :)
We camped out in Grapevine close to Bass Pro (wonder who picked that), and we surprised Laynie with a trip to the American Girl store!  The boys were troopers while the girls oohed & ahhed over all the dolls & their many, many accessories.  You could have lunch with your doll or get her hair done at the salon, but in the end we bought matching t-shirts for the girls!  :)

We found a few more things to occupy our time like browsing at Bass Pro, and some of my favorite people got to come out & visit with us...Darrin & Carmela and their kids.  It was so great to see my "youth ministers" again...but guess what Jones wanted to do the most...go swimming at the hotel pool!  That boy!
Now for the highlight of our trip the TEXAS RANGERS game! You may be thinking my husband picked this venue, but you would be wrong...our daughter did.  She is a Rangers FAN!  Every night it's Dad can we pleeeeease watch the Rangers tonight, or are the Rangers playing tonight Mom?  She's a FAN, she knows who the players are when they come up to bat & their positions, but favorite player is Michael Young.

We made a night of it at the ballpark arriving super early at 5:00 before the first pitch at 7:05, but it was great other than it being a record setting game for the hottest temperature at game time.  The kids got to go behind center field & play some baseball games, get icees, have ball park food for dinner, cheer the Rangers on to victory, and watch a fantastic Fireworks Friday show after the game.  We had a GREAT time! :)

Triathlon

A couple of weeks ago, Laynie completed her first Triathlon...we were super proud of her! She had to swim 50 yards, bike 2 miles, and then run a 1/2 mile! There were about 350 kids ages 6 to 16 competing...talk about a lot bikes in one place!

Laynie was a trooper, 'working out' almost daily to get prepared for the big event, but if you know Laynie you may be shocked that she worked out this hard :-) ...in true Laynie fashion during the week or two before the race, she said, "So you mean to tell me that if I hadn't said I wanted to do a triathlon, I wouldn't have to work out this hard?" I laughed and said, "Well maybe not quite this hard." I could see the wheels spinning and her thinking, "What was I thinking?!?"

We are so proud of our girl!
